As the founder of Marscoin, I've been reflecting on our journey and the exciting developments we've made recently. Marscoin has always been about creating a robust, decentralized cryptocurrency, and our recent efforts have been focused on strengthening our network while staying true to our principles.
Addressing Hash Rate Fluctuations Hash rate fluctuations have long been a challenge for smaller cryptocurrencies. To address this, we initially adopted the Dark Gravity Wave algorithm, which improved stability but wasn't a complete solution. Around block 3 million, we integrated the ASERT 2d difficulty adjustment algorithm, inspired by Bitcoin Cash. This change significantly improved our network's stability, allowing us to adapt swiftly to changes in hash rate.
Embracing Merged Mining To further enhance our network's security, we're implementing merged mining in our 1.6.5 branch. This approach will increase our hash rate and protect against potential attacks, ensuring a secure and resilient Marscoin network. Merged mining will also pave the way for increased adoption and stability, ensuring that Marscoin remains a viable option for users and miners alike.
A Conservative Yet Modern Approach We've chosen to focus on our 1.6.5 branch, integrating ASERT and potentially merged mining, while maintaining a conservative approach. This strategy allows us to modernize our cryptographic functions while preserving the original philosophy of Marscoin. We're also mindful of the impacts of features like RBF and SegWit on our network.
The Martian Republic: A Vision for On-Chain Governance Our other main project, the Martian Republic, is a proof-of-concept for on-chain voting governance. This project showcases the potential of Marscoin for generating fees and providing secure, audited voting systems on the blockchain. With the upcoming release of our iOS app, we anticipate that a higher hash rate from merged mining will greatly benefit this venture.
Looking to the Future: A New Hashing Algorithm On the horizon, we're considering a switch from Scrypt to RandomX or another anti-ASIC algorithm. This move would enable almost any computing device to contribute to our network's hashing security, aligning with our vision of a more inclusive and decentralized mining process. We plan to bring this proposal to a vote within the Marscoin community, underscoring our commitment to decentralized governance.
A Vision for Marscoin's Future We're building Marscoin not just for today, but with an eye toward future Martian colonies. We believe in layer-one transparency, on-chain auditability, and user empowerment. By avoiding complex second-layer solutions and keeping everything on a single layer, we aim to preserve decentralization and security. With dynamic blocks and built-in privacy features like throwaway wallets and future CoinJoin implementation, Marscoin is positioned to be a cornerstone of the interplanetary economy.
